HOST AND PARTNER INSTITUTION

The Centro Colombo Americano Medellín is a non-profit Colombian institution that promotes human development through academic and cultural programs, fostering extensive exchange with the United States and the world. 

Founded in 1947, Center activities are very diverse including the teaching of the English language to an average of 6,000 students monthly; cultural activities which include avant-garde art and photography exhibits by Colombian and international artists with a strong commitment to issues of social and ecological concern, a residency program for artists, one of the foremost repertory film programs in Latin America with daily screenings of documentary and fiction films in two cinemas, video art presentations; art, music and film seminars, concerts, theater performances etc.; a student advising service; coordination of high school exchange programs and academic exchanges for university professors and young professionals with the United States.

The Colombo in Medellin is funded principally by income generated by the English teaching program and earned income from other programs. The Center is independent and neither political nor religious in nature.

WORKING / LIVING CONDITIONS          

•Round trip ticket, lodging as well as approximately US$ 1,500 to cover meals and local transportation.
•Health insurance during the time of residency.
•Basic technical equipment as well as the facilities at the Center are available.
•The residency of six weeks will take place in Medellin and another city in Colombia. The laureate will develop a 2½ - 3 week workshop in each city with university art students and the community in general. 
•An exhibit of his work in situ and the results of the workshops in both cities will be displayed.
•The laureate is expected to give several lectures to university and high school students as well as the general public. 
•The laureate should have a strong pedagogical background and interest and experience working on collaborative projects.
•At the end of the residency, the laureate shall provide an evaluation describing among other things, the quality of the experience in terms of exchange, cultural dialogue and creativity and the artistic benefit derived from the residency.  This will be given to the director of the Colombo Americano which in turn will be shared with UNESCO – Aschberg.
•The laureate must assume the costs for obtaining a visa if required.

 

DATES OF RESIDENCY:

• To be fixed by mutual agreement between May, June and July 2010

ELIGIBILITY:

•25 – 35 years old
•Minimum 3 years of experience
•Working knowledge of English or Spanish
